Play Without Limits:

Designing a playground where every child belongs.

Imagine your school has received funding to create a brand-new playground. The principal wants every child to feel welcome, included and excited to play, regardless of their abilities or interests. Your class has been chosen to become a team of playground designers. Throughout this project, you will investigate what makes a playground inclusive, explore different ideas, design your own solution, and create a model that could inspire a real playground in your school. By working together, asking questions and solving problems, you will discover how thoughtful design can make a positive difference for everyone.

How can we design a playground where every child feels safe, included, and able to play?

Launch Event: Let's Investigate

To begin our project, we will explore a variety of playgrounds and discover what makes them safe, fun, and inclusive for everyone. We will look at different playground designs, watch short videos, and discuss how playgrounds can support children of all abilities. Then, we will become playground investigators by visiting our own school playground to observe what works well and identify areas that could be improved. These observations will help us gather ideas and inspire us as we begin designing a playground where every child can play without limits.
